FREE EVENT The 86 Cabaret Bar on Smith st Fitzroy is returning the DRAG A THON event which saw us make the Guinness World Record in 2017 with non stop drag for 36 hours 36 mins and 40 secs. To celebrate the huge accomplishment getting in the Guinness World Records, we have given DRAG A THON a permanent place on our annual entertainment calendar and what better time to host it than Midsumma.

See the moment we crossed over the old record of 36 hours below. For MIDSUMMA 2020 The 86 will again host a ‘day of drag’ on Sunday 26th January. At 2pm there is a FREE BBQ lunch for everyone and then we turn on the stage lights for a whole afternoon of OPEN STAGE DRAG followed by the famous NON-STOP DRAG show in the evening. 

The ‘Open Stage’ is an opportunity for anyone who wants to pop their drag cherry or even seasoned performer keen to get up on stage and strut their sync. In the evening from 8pm our main show will feature popular local drag performers including some of The 86’s Queens of ‘FELLAS in FROCKS’ and once it starts then it is.... 5 hours of non stop drag! But not only will the evening show have seasoned performers we also present in the evening show the stand out performers from the afternoon’s ‘Open Stage’. These performers will be competing for a cash prize of plus an invitation to return as a special guest in The 86’s weekly comedy drag show Fellas in Frocks.
 The whole day is FREE and open to the public to join in on the fun, grab a snag, a drink and lets all enjoy and celebrate the local drag culture and humour that our family of Melbourne Queens inject into our lives. 

DRAG A THON has seen numerous Drag performers, perform for the very 1st time. Some even now host their own show!! Last year’s winner MAX came up against a very strong ARCHIE ARSENIC but dug deep and presented a killer Grand Final routine achieving 1st place. MAX got the cash and was invited back to perform again to a sell out crowd in our special show WERQ THE WORLD After Party alongside DETOX from RuPaul’s Drag Race.


WANT TO PERFORM IN DRAG ON STAGE TO OUR AUDIENCE? 
The ‘Open Stage’ is open to any local, national or international Drag performer. Performers can choose if they just want to perform once in the afternoon or perform as part of the competition.

Indicate if you want to participate in the competition which if you do and you win your afternoon heat you will be required to return and perform again in the main evening show. To compete you will be required to have 3 spots [ie 3 songs] as we require a different routine at all 3 stages [HEATS in afternoon session then 5 Finalists become 2 Grand Finalists] Once all performances places have been filled performers may go on a waiting list in the venue on the day.
